  • Dulwich Picture Gallery is the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery: it was founded in 1811 when Sir Francis Bourgeois RA bequeathed his collection of old masters “for the inspection of the public”.

Today the Gallery is a vibrant cultural hub hosting some of the UK’s leading exhibitions alongside its Permanent Collection of Baroque masterpieces while staging a wide-ranging programme of public events, practical art and community engagement.

Opening hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 10.00-17.00 (Last Entry 16.30). Monday: closed (except Bank Holiday Mondays, when we open 10.00–17.00). Closed 24-26 December and New Year’s Day.

Admission charges (with concessions) for both exhibitions and the permanent collection.

This gallery has a wonderful collection of paintings and interesting exhibitions but I’m allergic to the place. After half an hour my eyes water and my nose itches. If I don’t run out, I soon find myself with tears streaming down my cheeks and eyes burning. I hate to miss its exhibitions but I can’t see the painting through my tears.
