Originally owned by the Earl of Nottingham, the palace was purchased as a royal residence in 1689. In 1899 the State Apartments were opened to the public. The private area of Kensington Palace houses members of the Royal Family. Princess Diana had an apartment here as do the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children.
Exhibitions connected to the Royal Family are presented in the Palace.
The Palace is open seven days a week except 24-26 December. Summer hours (1 March – 31 October) are 10.00-18.00. Winter hours are 10.00-16.00.
There is an admission charge with concessions.

What a double delight for a royal-loving American tourist who hates to miss any special exhibitions. I was especially moved by the rooms connected with Mary. She died so young of smallpox while she was renovating the newly purchased palace. I will come back to see the Diana exhibition – another palace resident who died too young
